Granite Planet

Granite Planet is a Brooklyn based opera company that I co-run with Will Stevens. We work with singers who did not get where they are today through a traditional classical-opera-singer path. We look for short, unconventional scores and stories and we put these shows on in unconventional venues. We aim to make opera a more accessible medium. If you’re feeling nervous about auditioning for an opera company, believe me, we want to work with you.

Our Artistic Statement: Granite Planet was founded in 2015 along the Appalachian Trail about seventy miles south of the Canadian border. We seek to emotionally manipulate an audience. Our art is the loudest in the neighborhood. We make heterosexual art for homosexuals. Art that you can neither forget nor forgive. We have no pretensions to change the world. Our goal is only to enlighten others as to what is currently happening in our brains.

Audition

If you are interested in singing with us, we want to hear you! We currently do things on a project-by-project basis, so we may not get back to you, but we would love to have your name on file should an opportunity that fits you arise.

Submit a Score

If you are interested in having Granite Planet perform your piece, submit it using the form below. Keep in mind that we are a small company and have several restrictions. We will not be able to consider your score if it isn’t what you are looking for. We are looking for pieces that:

-are under 20 minutes

-are in English

-have minimal instrumentation - best bet is piano only, but if it’s piano and one other instrument we can see if we can make it work

-have 5 characters maximum

-are acoustic and not too tech heavy

Granite Planet premiered my micro opera, What’s it trying to feel like? with text by Simone Stern on May 4th, 2024 at Cloud City in Williamsburg.
